Friday:
- If you arrive on Friday, please join the wedding party for light refreshments courtesy of Arlene and Ed Stallard, Derek's parents, at Benjamin's Restaurant in downtown Indiana. Plan to meet up at 8:30 pm to enjoy the outdoor bar and patio, and then possibly walk to some of the other fine establishments on Philadelphia Street (aka the Main Street of Indiana).
Saturday: hopefully you won't be nursing a hangover from Friday, as there is a lot more celebrating to be done at the actual wedding. However, since the ceremony doesn't begin until the evening, you may want to explore Indiana a little bit more.
- Check out the downtown:
- Caffe Amadeus: Olivia's FAVORITE coffee/tea spot. The atmosphere is wonderful in this family owned establishment, drinks are phenomenal, selection is vast (they even have a Fujian Oolong from the region of China that Derek and Olivia visited on their engagement trip). They also have tortes and paninis....you should DEFINITELY go there....seriously....
- Jimmy Stewart: he was born and raised in Indiana. Downtown there is a Jimmy Stewart museum adjacent to the library at 835 Philadelphia Street (Museum website here).
- If you continue north on 9th street to Water street then turn right and walk 2 blocks, you will find the 7th street steps (which are roped off, but who ever let a little rope stop them...) at the top was Jimmy's boyhood home and a nice overlook of Indiana.
- The Meadows: local icecream place, yum!
- Yellow Creek State Park: This is the favored local mountain biking spot, although we're not advocating that on the day of the wedding. There are miles of hiking trails, boat rentals available and a public beach for swimming. (Yellowcreek Website)
- Play Tennis: Indiana is also home to IUP (Indiana University of Pennsylvania, the alma mater of Olivia's sister Chloe and her husband Mike!). There are tennis courts located Fisher Avenue and Maple Street. Also free to play, but you must supply rackets and tennis balls.
- Disc Golf: There is a disc golf course at the College Lodge, this disc golf course link has details and location. It's free to play, but bring your own discs.
Sunday: we are planning to meet for Sunday brunch at the Indiana Country Club at 10:30 am. Please see the "home" tab of the blog for the PayPal link in order to sign up.
Hey Liv,
ReplyDeleteYou should link Benjamin's restaurant to your blog too so people can check it out beforehand and even see the address if need be :)
Hey Chlo!
DeleteIt is linked...but under the eating and drinking tab....haha, love you!
